How to Reinforce and Armor a Garage Door?

If you have an insecure garage door, I’m revealing the secret to making it impenetrable.

By now, you’re probably tired of hearing my thoughts on insecure swing-up doors. However, the fact remains that keeping your family safe shouldn’t be a burden but a natural instinct. Either you have it or you’ll always be anxious.

Just go to the newsstand and you’ll find plenty of articles about intrusions, robberies, and assaults in insecure homes. Despite all this, there are still individuals who think that misfortunes only happen to others.

Basculante-caduta

I’ve seen too many accidents caused by products that are too poor in quality.

In my career as an entrepreneur, being in direct contact with those who frequently use garage doors, I’ve heard and experienced situations that if I told you about now, you wouldn’t sleep soundly for the next few weeks.

If you also have an insecure swing-up door, don’t blame yourself because it was those who wanted to sell you a product at all costs who led you there. They didn’t tell you that you wouldn’t be safe, but they hypnotized you only on the price, and alas, you fell for it.

Now you find yourself in a house where you’ve installed an alarm system designed for you by NASA, but you didn’t think it was better to keep the thieves out rather than let them in and then hear the 2000-decibel siren blare!

The big problem is that there are really many people like you.

The positive thing, however, is that you have two solutions to make your garage door secure:

  • The first is to try to limit the damage as much as possible by acting on the door you have;
  • The second is to secure yourself once and for all.

Let’s start with you!

When you built your house, they installed a sheet metal door because the company included it in the specifications, and you didn’t bother to ask about the security features.

You can act in several ways, but you should know that the damage is done and now you can only smooth the rough edges.

What can you do to increase the security of your swing-up door?

Change the lock: You can replace it with a model that cannot be attacked from the outside. As standard on my doors, I install locks with anti-drill protection. If you don’t even want to see the deadbolt, then I can provide you with a manganese plate with opening via a magnetic transponder.

If you can’t touch the lock, then you can always install the so-called “bell” on the floor that you can close with a padlock.

Just imagine the stress you’ll have when you have to get out of the car, bend down to open this gadget on the ground, maybe dirty or wet from the rain because your door is completely exposed to the elements.

It’s not a life!

Reinforce the sheet metal: at least in the area near the lock. First, I told you to change the lock, but if the sheet metal can then be cut with a simple can opener, that discussion is useless.

Try putting a sheet of metal on the inside to prevent break-ins near the lock. This will at least allow you to delay the thieves a bit longer.

Install bars: on the inside, you can install profiles that prevent your door from being bent from one side. First, I told you to protect the lock, but if the door can then be bent by pulling it out from one side, then even the discussion about the sheet metal is useless.

However, all these operations require attention.

Your door was designed to support the weight of construction and nothing more. If you go to install bars, sheets, locks with plates, you’ll definitely have to increase the counterweights, otherwise, the door won’t stay open, or if it’s motorized, the motor will be under strain and you risk burning it out.

The problem is this: are you sure that by increasing the counterweights, the cable will hold the new weight? And the pulley? Are you sure it won’t crack after a few uses?

I have same doubts!
